yoga for beginners

As Baron Baptiste would say, "Don’t build your house on sand." As a Baptiste Power Yoga Affiliate Studio, we offer beginner classes for those interested in a power yoga practice. We also offer Yoga 101 to prepare those students who prefer a traditional hatha practice. These classes provide the foundation to build a lifelong yoga practice that enhances your physical and mental health.

welcome to yoga

Starting anything new can bring up feelings of uneasiness. We’d like to help answer your questions and set you at ease right from the get-go. We all started at the beginning, right?

what is Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga?

Baron says it best in “40 Days to Personal Revolution,” Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga is a purposeful practice that will build a flexible and integrated strength, help rinse out toxins and dissolve tensions, and, if need be, release excess weight from your body, so you can have a stable and balanced foundation from which to flow in life. Perhaps you already know from experience — and if not, you will discover — that Power Vinyasa Yoga practice sculpts and frees your natural body by removing what does not belong authentically. Finally it creates a flexible strength and functional stability throughout your entire body.

frequently asked questions

What do I need to do before my first class?

Nothing. Just come about 10 minutes before the scheduled class time to sign in. We will show you where you can change your clothes, take off your shoes, use the bathroom and get to the yoga studio.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes that will stretch. Avoid baggy tees that tend to fall over your head when you bend over. The room temperature in the Power Vinyasa classes is 85-90 degrees — so dress in layers. Yoga is done in your bare feet.

Do I need to bring anything?

If you have a yoga mat, please bring it. If not, we rent mats for $1 that we wash after each use, and sell them as well. If you are taking a Power Vinyasa class you can bring a water bottle and a towel — also available in our store.

What if I can’t touch my toes or have never been able to avoid distraction long enough to meditate?

You are in the right place. As Baron Baptiste says, “it’s a yoga practice, not a yoga perfect.” We all have a lot to learn and breathe is a place to come practice.

Should I eat before I come to class?

Having something light in your stomach before class is fine to keep energy and blood sugar levels up, but avoid any heavy or large meals for at least 2 hours before class. Also, you will have a better experience if you come to class hydrated.
